The GOOD DESIGN Awards – an annual highlight on the design calendar and one of the most prestigious international awards for design and innovation was announced last week. This year, Nienkämper was honored with four GOOD DESIGN Awards for the following designs; Rowan Lounge and Rowan Conference Table designed by Yabu Pushelberg, Brig Lounge Collection by Fig40 and MagPower Tables by Carl Gustav Magnusson. The award is given to the most innovative industrial products of the year by the Chicago Athenaeum, Museum of Architecture and Design, promoted from the European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
Founded in Chicago in 1950 by Eero Saarinen and Charles and Ray Eames, the GOOD DESIGN Awards remains the oldest and the world’s most recognized program for design excellence. The jury, consisting of industry professionals and experts, industry specialists, and trade media, bases its decisions on the same original criteria as in 1950 regarding innovation, form, materials, construction, concept, function, utility, sustainability, and aesthetics.
“It’s an honor for Nienkämper to once again be recognized with GOOD DESIGN Awards,” said Klaus Nienkämper, “and it is a privilege to be working with such talented and forward-thinking designers.”
Rowan Table by Yabu Pushelberg; Defined by its balanced proportions and soft, sculptural shape, the Rowan Collection embodies the organic-modern aesthetic we have come to recognize from Yabu Pushelberg. The table design is centered around the unique shaped wood base. Conceived as a collection of conference, coffee and side tables, the Rowan table collection demonstrates the understated drama of organic forms, resulting in a refined and timeless aesthetic. Rowan conference tables boast a new edge profile for Nienkämper. The Cascade Edge features two 1 1/4” radius, half bullnose profiles in opposing edges (an upward edge running the length of the table, and downward edge on the ends). Rowan conference tables can also integrate flexible power, data and video connectivity, a hallmark of Nienkämper conference tables.
The Rowan Lounge: This collection's fluid and continuous smooth lines highlight the informal elegance of the new Rowan Lounge Collection. The Rowan Lounge chair has a surprisingly small footprint, but with a comfortable, spacious seat. Special attention is paid to the stitch detail that brings out the sinuous design of this collection adding a distinctive characteristic to the versatile soft seating collection.
MagPower by Carl Gustav Magnusson: MagPower features power and charging solutions for people and furniture on the move. The new MagPower is a versatile collection of mobile and stationery, multipurpose tables ideally suited for focused individual, small groups and various training activities. This dynamic modular table system is designed to provide a functional, clutter-free work surface and charging station for work zones that require no hard wiring. Reimagine power and charging with the most flexible table collection for commercial spaces.
Brig by Fig40: Brig is soft seating collection designed to create configurations that allow people to imagine their own personal space. Resting on a wood plinth with exposed plywood edge, Brig seats are generous in scale and easily separated by tables to allow a natural physical distance without the need to leave a seat empty. The backs are available at 2 heights to create space division or openness allowing for more dynamic seating compositions. A broad range of end elements; tables, open shelves, planters are also available to make this system truly versatile. An intelligent and robust understructure allows for seats with and without backs, seats facing opposite directions and an infinite array of lengths. Brig is a space to share with others while respecting their privacy; secluded but not excluded.
